Homework Policy: Much of the coursework will be completed in class, Homework assignments will include: projects, presentations, vocabulary and worksheets. These are to be completed in a timely manner.
Makeup Work Policy: Makeup work for a day missed is the student’s responsibility and should be asked for upon their return to class. Students will be given sufficient time to complete missing assignments.
Course Outline: World History will focus on the cultural, economic, political and military aspects of the world. The course will be divided into the following areas:
* Civilizations
* Religion
* Cultures and People
* War/Conflict
* Scientific Revolution
* Industrial Revolution
* Trade
World History is a chance to learn about the ever changing world in which we live, we will focus on the changes and mistakes made in the past and see how they have shaped the world today. Studying the history of the world and comparing the past to the present is an important skill to gain.

* Maps and Atlases (provided)
* a notebook, spiral or three-ring binder with loose-leaf paper
* a folder to keep classroom handouts in (provided)
* writing utensils (pen/pencils)
* a highlighter (provided)
Classroom Expectations/Policy:
* You should be in class and ready to work
* Follow directions the first time they are given
* Ask for help if you do not understand
* No food or drink in room unless approved by me in advance
* Sleeping in class is not acceptable
Consequences for choosing inappropriate behavior:
*warning from teacher
*referral to detention
*phone call to parents
Most importantly, actively participate in class as it is your classroom and your education!
First Quarter
Weeks 1
Introduction The students will be given the history of history. We will discuss the reasons for studying history and the importance of knowing why things happened.
Weeks 2-4
Civilizations The students will discover how, where and why the first civilizations developed. This will include investigations as to what a civilization is and what are the basic needs to be considered a civilization.
Weeks 5-6
Culture and People The students will investigate the cultures of the world with the changes that have taken place with acculturation. The people and their influences on the world and the environment will be explored.
Weeks 7-9
Religions Students will be introduced to the different religions of the world. The main religions will be individually covered in more detail. Students will choose a religion and prepare a presentation on it.
Second Quarter
Weeks 10-11
Trade Students will discover the effect of trade activities on the regions of the world, discuss the impact of trade, the peripheral aspects that impact an area. The economic impact of embargoes and trade restrictions as well as the development of trade routes and methods will be discussed.
Weeks 12-14
Scientific Revolution Students will be introduced to historical changes in thought & belief, to changes in social & institutional organization that took place in Europe that changed the world.
Industrial Revolution Students will be introduced to the changes made in the world because of the Industrial Revolution. The inventors and their inventions that have had long standing impact on the world will be covered in greatest detail.
Weeks 15-17
War and Conflict Students will explore the impact of war upon a region. Wars will be compared and the effects will be investigated. The reasons for war and the loss and devastation will be emphasized.
Weeks 18-19
Projects and Presentations The students will choose from the countries covered in the second semester to do Presentations/Projects on and will have time to finish their projects and present them to the rest of class as part of their semester assessment.
Review and Test The students will be prepared for and administered a semester test that encompasses all of the material covered in the semester.
